The Belt System

White Belt White

Signifies innocence, as that of a beginning student without any previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do.
Yellow Belt Yellow

Signifies the Earth into which a seed has been planted and takes root.
Green Belt Green

Signifies the plant’s growth as the student’s skills begin to develop.
Blue Belt Blue

Signifies the sky toward which the plant grows, maturing into a towering tree.
Red Belt Red

Means danger, cautioning the student to use control, and the opponent to stay away.
Black Belt Black

The opposite of white, thus signifying the wearer’s maturity and proficiency in the art of Taekwon-Do. It also indicates the wearer’s imperviousness to darkness and fear.
